Photorealistic Image Synthesis

Vortragssprache Englisch
Content The lecture photorealistic image synthesis comprises algorithms and methods in computer graphics for the creation of photorealistic images. Topics are among others: global illumination, radiometry, path tracing methods and multiple importance sampling, photon mapping, reflectance models, and advanced estimators for Monte Carlo and quasi-Monte Carlo integration. Markov chains and participating media are also included.
Recommendation: previous experience with the content of Stammvorlesung Computergraphik.
Goal: the students understand algorithms and methods for the rendering of realistic imagery (including reflection models, the physics of light transport simulation, and Monte Carlo methods). They can analyse these and judge their suitability for use in certain scenarios. They can choose such a method and implement it, by constructing their own Monte Carlo estimators.
